Oklahoma Support Group

Bud & I have encouraged people who have been to our schools to start a “Support Group” in their area.  It is very helpful to folks who are practicing Stockmanship and/or Marketing to be able to meet every month or so and talk to people who believe in the same things they do.

A couple of weeks ago we attended such a meeting near Independence, Kansas at Jack & Lori Martins ranch (see pictures posted July 19th).

July 27-28, 2009 Jeremy Colvard invited us to meet with such a group at Gage, Oklahoma.   In addition to visiting at the Gage Community Center, we went to Kent & Denise Miller’s ranch and worked some newly arrived heifers.

Megan-Will Banks

Bud and I really enjoyed having Megan and Will Banks visit us for a One-on-One here at Bowie.  We met their parents when we were in Australia in 2002.

We usually hold these meetings out in the class-room, but Bud wanted to keep an eye on his DTN machine this day.  Since there were just the two of them we set up in his office.

One-on-One in New Mexico

Posted July 16th, 2009 — Filed in Highlights

Bud and I spent 2-days at the Vermejo Park Ranch in New Mexico in late May. Several people from the Ranch had attended one of the March Stockmanship Schools here in Bowie. Their goal is to be able to get the bison to better utilize the range and be willing to stay where they are “placed.”

We don’t usually do “One-on-One’s” away from home anymore, but Bud made an exception in this case. The nearly 600,000 acre ranch is primarily used for wildlife habitat and taking in Hunting and Fishing guests. The facilities are fantastic, and the food is even better. We were pleased with what the crew and the Bison learned in the short time that we were there. We have every confidence that they will be able to reach their goal.
