"Bud Box"

Posted July 14th, 2010 — Filed in Miscellaneous, Stockmanship

There have been a lot of articles written about the “Bud Box” for loading a processing chute or trucks in the last few years.  Though Bud has often stated that he “would like to live long enough to see every crowd tub replaced with a Bud Box, or at least with some other system that is more animal friendly,” we view these articles with mixed emotions since unless you understand the right way to work it, it doesn’t work as well as it should. I used to try to discourage people from building a Bud Box unless they had been to one of our schools or had seen the DVDs that we have for sale, but there has been such wide-spread coverage (including some information that is not correct) that I decided to post some information here on our website.

Cattle Guards

Posted July 2nd, 2010 — Filed in Miscellaneous

Bud and I just received this from an Australian Friend

For those of you who have never travelled to the west,  cattle guards are horizontal steel rails placed at fence openings, in dug-out places in the roads adjacent to highways (sometimes across highways), to prevent cattle from crossing over that area.

A few months ago, Kevin Rudd received a report that there were over 10,000 cattle guards in New South Wales & Queensland. Graziers had protested his proposed changes in grazing policies, so he ordered the Minister to fire half of the “cattle guards”  immediately!!

Before the Minister could respond and presumably try to straighten him out, Minister for Employment Julia Gillard, intervened with a request that.. “before any cattle guards were fired, they be given six months of retraining.”

And they are running our country, OMG!!

Merry Christmas from Bowie, Texas

I’ve always heard the term “If you don’t like the weather around here, just wait a few minutes” but this is ridiculous!

Wednesday, the weather was beautiful, probably about 70 degrees.  Thursday morning (Christmas Eve) we woke up to freezing rain which quickly changed to snow.  It “blowed and snowed” all day.  Road conditions were so bad that nearly all of the Churches cancelled their Christmas Eve services.

We woke up to a beautiful White Christmas this morning.  It is clear and calm and about 20 degrees.  With as much wind as we had yesterday we have drifts over 2 feet deep some places and only 3 or 4 inches in others.  The Bowie kids will finally have enough snow to make a proper snow man!  I wonder what tomorrow will bring?

No matter what the weather where you live, we hope you are having a Wonderful Christmas!

Disclaimer

Posted December 17th, 2009 — Filed in Marketing, Miscellaneous

When Eunice and I started the Marketing School and Website, we stated that we do not give advice on what trades to make or when to make them.  I would like to address this a little more.

Our schools and web-site are to show people how to figure what is underpriced and overpriced and how to understand what sell/buy marketing is about.  At no time do I tell people what to sell or when to sell, or what to buy or when to buy.

People have always been told to use all of their costs plus a profit when they are figuring.  At no time should a person use less than their total costs. That’s why we try to show how to even get full value for each different cost.

It’s always a shame that a person has to be so careful about everything we say or do, but since it is that way, we don’t give advice and have not given advice on what people should sell or buy.

I have, and will, post many things as we go along but they are only what can be done, not what should be done. It is up to each person to do their own figuring. The figuring that I do is just for an example, and how to figure what is overpriced and what is underpriced.

Free Subscriptions Have Ended

Posted September 19th, 2009 — Filed in Subscription Site Information

Bud and I have decided to expand our website to include a “Subscription” section.

Bud has often decided against posting something to this site because it could be confusing to people who are not familiar with his Stockmanship or Marketing concepts. These musings, along with other more detailed information for folks who have attended a stockmanship and/or marketing school, are now posted to our new “Subscription” area.

Along with Bud’s comments on timely subjects, subscribers will be offered the opportunity to ask Bud questions. You will receive a personal e-mail answer and, if it is of general interest, we will post the Q & A to our site. No names will be used. Your comments will be welcomed, too.

If you wish to subscribe for one year, please send your check for $300.00 to me along with your Name,  Address,  Phone number and e-mail address.

Set the Record Straight

Posted September 4th, 2009 — Filed in Miscellaneous, Stockmanship

Ann Barnhardt has been doing a great job teaching our basic Marketing School since 2006.  BudWilliamsMarketing.com is her website.  We don’t have anything to do with it.

Bud’s schools (and his life) have always been “works in progress.”  From the questions we have been getting from folks who have attended our (and Ann’s) Marketing Schools he decided that some things needed to be explained a little better.  This is why we decided to enlarge our Stockmanship.com website to include a “Subscription” section for people who are serious about wanting to learn (both Marketing and Stockmanship) from Bud.

Support Groups

Posted September 1st, 2009 — Filed in Miscellaneous, Stockmanship

Comment:     Please let me know if you have another discussion group in Texas or an adjoining state.  I would love to spend time with positive minded-people who don’t think I am a nut.

Answer:   Bud and I strongly advise folks to locate like-thinking people to meet with.  These meetings give people the opportunity to help one another and counteract the negativity that seems to be all around us these days.  It also helps to develop working relationships that can help in many ways.

We never give out information from our data-base, but if anyone wants to volunteer to head such a group I’ll be glad to send e-mails to the people that we know in their area so they can contact you if they are interested.

I’ve been going to write for awhile and wondering how you folks are doing. Perhaps you’d like an update too.

The Canadian pork industry has been losing money for close to two years so when folks have to choose between training and feed bills. . . .
I spent most of last year working with three packing plants in Ontario. I also did some courses for a trucking Co. in Manitoba. They were enthused with what they got and adamant they needed the video and material there so (more…)
